Division is often referred to as "repeated subtraction". In fact, the "standard division algorithm" tends toward just that. That is, you could say 6 - 3×2 is repeated subtraction of 3 (or 2, depending on how you look at it).

Obviously, the "standard division algorithm" is a strategy for division.

When dividing cookie dough, you might compare sizes of balls of dough, taking some from the larger ball and adding it to the smaller ball. That is, you would be "comparing groups."
