The second of two numbers is 5 more than twice the first. Their sum is 80. Find the
numbers.

25 and 55

Explanation:

So we have two numbers:

n & 2n+5

They are saying the sum of the two numbers is 80, so our equation is 2n+5+n = 80.

We simplify and get 3n+5=80

We subtract 5 from both sides and are left with 3n=75.

You put the three under the 75 and get n = 25.

We plug that back into our original equation 2(25)+5.

Then we simplify so we have 50+5 = 55.
