Probably the first american club was founded in philadelphia in 1732 (4 years before white's in london). although not truly thought to be representative of early clubs, it was famous for it's punch, which was a blend of cognac, peach brandy, and dark rum. what was the name of the club?

The answer to this question is the Union Club. It is the oldest, private and the most prestigious club in New York City. The club refuses to remove its confederate members, despite taking a strong line on restraining anti-draft riots.
