A variable is said to be quantitative variable, if it is represented through Numbers.
"Population of a city" is Discrete variable, because in a city there are colonies which have different Populations and we can represent it through Distinct Histogram which has distinct height.
Colony A=345,678
Colony B=546,783
Colony C=432,345
Colony D=......
These representations are discrete , in which values are not represented in terms of Intervals. Two or more colony can have Same Population.
Now, Coming to Continuous Variable, Suppose we have population of distinct colonies, and then we have to make Intervals, that is between these interval this amount of Population lie.But What should be the width of the interval , and dividing the population in terms of Interval , it will be ambiguous.
So, "Population of a city" will be discrete variable .
