Buddha's teachings mainly focused on two main aspects: suffering and ending suffering. His prescription to avoid suffering was to follow the noble Eightfold path, that involves: right view, right intention, right speech, right action, right livelihood; right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration. Buddha's main principle for a 'Holy Life' is that good brings good and bad brings bad and states that is important not to attach to things of this world or the next.
