Who was Montesquieu? Explain his idea of seperation of powers?

Montesquieu, generally referred to as simply Montesquieu, was a French judge, man of letters, and political philosopher. Montesquieu called the idea of dividing government power into three branches the "separation of powers." He thought it most important to create separate branches of government with equal but different powers. He created this idea so that, a branch wouldn't become TOO powerful
