Samuel Nunes was a Portuguese Physician, he was the first Jewish settlers to settle in the Colony of Georgia in 1733.
Nunez arrived in the Colony of Georgia at the time when the plague of yellow fever was exploding in the colony. General James Edward Oglethorpe ( who was the founder of the colony) allowed the Jewish immigrant Nunes to treat the victims of the epidemic. Nunez gave important medical aid to the patients of the colony by making use of the indigenous plants. Nunez sprang to the advice of the Colonists and shortly controlled the outbreak.
