The Native Americans that were living on the Great Plains were heavily engaged into hunting bison, and were heavily dependent for survival on the bison meat as a food source, and the fur as a material for making clothes. Unfortunately, this led over time to a significant decrease in the number of bison herds on the Great Plains.
