we know that

1 m almost equals 3.281 ft

1 mi equals 5280 ft

so

step 1

Convert 100 m to ft

Multiply 100 by 3.281

100*3.281=328.1 ft

step 2

Convert 328.1 ft to miles

Divide 328.1 by 5280

328.1/5280=0.0621 miles

step 3

Find the time

we know that

100 meter is equal to-------> 0.0621 miles

John ran the 0.0621 miles dash with a time of 9.82 sec

Find the time for 26 miles

by proportion

(0.0621)/(9.82) (miles)/(sec)=(26)/(x) (miles)/(sec)\\\\ 0.0621*x=26*9.82\\ \\ x=(26*9.82)/0.0621\\\\x=4,111.43\ sec

convert to hour

we know that

1 hour is------------> 3,600 sec

4,111.43 sec is-----------> 4,111.43/3,600=1.14 hour

4,111.43 sec=1 hour+(4,111.43 sec-3,600 sec)------> 1 hour+511.43 sec

convert to minutes

we know that

1 minute is ---------> 60 sec

511.43 sec=511.43/60-------------> 8.52 min

511.43 sec=8 min+(511.43 sec-8*60 sec)------> 511.43 sec=8 min+31.43 sec

therefore

the total time is equal to

4,111.43 sec= 1 hour +8 min+31.43 sec

the answer is

1 hour +8 min+31.43 sec
