To find this out you put 35/50 then A/100 because we are looking for the percentage of 35 so A is a placeholder. Then you cross multiply so 35 times 100 and 50 times A which leaves you with 3500 and 50A then you divide both sides by 50 which leaves you with 70=A which means 70% of 50 shirts is 35 shirts.
