6(5 - 8v) + 12 = -54

...multiply 6

30 - 48v + 12 = -54

...simplify

42 - 48v = -54

...subtract 42

-48v = -96

...divide -48

v = 2

We are given:

6(5-8v)+12=-54

Let's simplify the equation by using the distributive property. Multiply 6 by everything in the parenthesis. We then get:

30-48v+12=-54

Combine like terms on the left side of the equation:

42-48v=-54

Subtract 42 from both sides to isolate the v on the left.

-48v=-96

Divide both sides by -48 to isolate the variable, v.

(-48v)/(-48)=(-96)/(-48)

Simplify.

v=2
