there are 8 pigs to every 3 sheep

8 pigs +3 sheep is 11 ÷165 is 15

15×8 is 120

15×3 is 45

so there was 45 sheep

Answer: 45

Explanation:

Given : In a certain field, the ratio of pigs to sheep is
(8)/(3). (1)

Let 3x be the total number of sheep and 8x be the number of pigs in the field.

If there are 165 pigs and sheep altogether in a field, then we have

3x+8x=165\\\\\Rightarrow\ 11x=165\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=(165)/(11)=15

Now, the number of sheep are there =
3x=3(15)=45

Hence, there are 45 sheep.
