Answer:

cross multiply

(7)(x) = (63)(5)

7x = 315

x = 315/7

x = 45 <=== if there were 63 schooners, then there were 45 skiff's

Since you know your multiplication tables, you know that 63 = 9×7. Multiply your ratio by 9 to find your answer.

schooners : skiffs = 7 : 5 = 63 : 45

There were 45 skiffs.
