The name Chaparral originates from the Spanish word for evergreen oak shrubland. Chaparral is a shrubland plant community discovered originally in California and in the north division of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico.

It is formed by a Mediterranean climate which is warm, moist winters, hot arid summers, and wildfire.

Chaparral, vegetation comprised of broad-leaved evergreen plants, shrubs, and tiny trees normally less than 2.5 m tall and collectively they often form thick shrubberies.
