This will be less confusing if you look at the attached image.

12) a is correct.
first solve the expression and then find one that is the same in the options. To do this combine like terms.

13) x=6
first solve the parenthesis by multiplying the fraction in front by both numbers inside. Then subtract the 2 from both sides divide to separate the x and then you get x=6

13. Undo what is done to x. Perform the operations on both sides of the equation.

... 3x -4 = -22 . . . . multiply by -2 to undo multiplication by -1/2

... 3x = -18 . . . . . . . add 4 to undo subtraction of 4

... x = -6 . . . . . . . . . divide by 3 to undo the multiplication by 3

The value of x is -6.
