Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation.

6y−16=−2(−3y+8)

6y+−16=(−2)(−3y)+(−2)(8)(Distribute)

6y+−16=6y+−16

6y−16=6y−16

Step 2: Subtract 6y from both sides.

6y−16−6y=6y−16−6y

−16=−16

Step 3: Add 16 to both sides.

−16+16=−16+16

0=0

Distribute -2 to all terms within the parenthesis

-2(-3y + 8) = 6y - 16

6y - 16 = 6y - 16 (True)

Simplify. isolate the y. Add 16 to both sides, and subtract 6y from both sides

6y (-6y) - 16 (+16) = 6y (-6y) - 16 (+16)

0 = 0 (True)

hope this helps
