Answer;

Attached to the central carbon atom in an amino acids are;

-An amino functional group

-A side chain ("R group")

-A carboxyl functional group

- A hydrogen

Step-by-step explanation;

-Proteins are polymers of amino acids monomers. Thus amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, joined by peptide bonds to form polypeptide chains.

-Each molecule of amino acid contains a central carbon (C) atom, called the α-carbon, to which both an amino (-NH2) and a carboxyl group (-COOH) are attached. The remaining two bonds of the α-carbon atom are generally satisfied by a hydrogen (H) atom and the R group.

-Proteins have various functions in the body. Some are enzymes that speed chemical reactions.
