A 213g hot tub in the winter has a temperature of 42℃ at 9pm. All heating is turned off. The next morning the hot tub water has a temperature of 22℃. How much energy is required to bring the temperature back to 42℃?

Answer: -

17832.36 J of energy is required to bring the temperature back to 42℃

Explanation: -

Mass of water = 213 g

Initial temperature = 22 °C

Final temperature = 42 °C

Change in temperature ΔT = Final temperature - Initial Temperature

= 42 °C - 22 °C

= 20 °C

Specific Heat for water c = 4.186 J / g °C

Heat energy required = m x c x ΔT

= 213 g x 4.186 J / g °C x 20 °C

= 17832.36 J

Thus 17832.36 J of energy is required to bring the temperature back to 42℃
