The solubility of acetanilide is 18.5 g in 100 ml of methanol at 0 °c, and 59.2 g in 100 ml of methanol at 60 °c. what is the maximum percent recovery that can be achieved for the recrystallization of acetanilide from methanol?

Percent recovery is an indication of how much of active ingredient one is able to recover after purification method.

The formula for percent recovery is:

Percent recovery = (weight after crystallization)/(weight of substance used initially)

weight after crystallization = 59.2 g -18.5 g = 40.7 g

weight of substance used initialy = 59.2 g

Substituting the values in the above formula:

Percent recovery = (40.7)/(59.2)* 100

Percent recovery = 68.75 %

Hence, the maximum percent recovery that can be achieved for the recrystallization of acetanilide from methanol is
68.75 %.
