Food surpluses mean that consumers would have more food for consumption. According to the law of supply and demand, when there is a surplus or and excedent of one product, it tends to be cheaper because there is more than people needed. The opposite would be a shortage when there is a limited number of this product in the market and the price rises because many people would demand it.
