Discussion

This question could be done in many ways. The easiest is by multiplying the whole equation by 2 which will get rid of the fraction.

Step One

Multiply the entire fraction by 2.

2 [ 12x + 51 = 1/2 x + 5 ]

24x + 102 = x + 10

Step Two

Subtract 102 from both sides.

24x = x + 10 - 102

24x = x - 92

Step Three. Subtract x from both sides.

24x - x = - 92

23x = - 92

Step four

Divide by 23

x = - 92/23

x = - 4
