The area of a certain desert​ (desert 1) is six times the area of another desert​ (desert 2). if the sum of their areas is 14000000 square​ miles, find the area of each desert.

Let the area of desert two be x square miles , and the area of desert 1 is 6 times of the area of desert 2. So area of desert 1 is 6x square miles .

And it is given that the total area of the two deserts is 14000000 square miles.

That is


x+6x = 14000000 \\ 7x = 14000000 \\ x = 2000000 \ square \ miles

So the area of second desert is 2000000 square miles and of first desert is 12000000 square miles .
