How to do problem with variable on both sides

Example problem:
2x+58=5x-2

First we need to get the variable on one side so we can do that by subtracting 2x from both sides.

58=3x-2

Then we need to isolate our variable to make it by itself on one side. We can do that by adding 2 to both sides.

60=3x

Finally divide each side by 3 and you end up with x=30.
(If you end up with something like 30=30 that means there are infinite solutions. If you end up with something like 24=30 there are no solutions.)
