Using a calculator, we see that

-1/2 = -0.5

-1/3 = -0.333 approximately

So saying "some number between -1/2 and -1/3" is roughly the same as saying "some number between "-0.5 and -0.333". Choice A can be ruled out because -0.53 is not between -0.5 and -0.333. Choice B can be eliminated for similar reasons. The same story happens with choice D as well.

The only possible answer is choice C. The values -0.4 and -0.454545... are between -0.5 and -0.333... so that helps confirm the answer
