You do the opposite of the sign so if it’s a plus sign you go left or down and if it’s a minus you go right or up. So the answer is B

Answer:

The correct option is 1.

Explanation:

The parent rational function is

g(x)=(1)/(x)

The transformation is defined as

f(x)=(1)/(x+a)+b .... (1)

Where, a is horizontal shift and b is vertical shift.

If a>0, then the graph shifts a units left and if a<0, then the graph shifts a units right.

If b>0, then the graph shifts b units up and if b<0, then the graph shifts b units down.

The given function is

f(x)=(1)/(x+1)-5 ..... (2)

From (1) and (2), it is clear that

a=1,b=-5

It means graph shifts 1 units left and 5 units down.

Therefore the correct option is 1.
