If gonorrhea is a treatable bacterial infection, why do so many women experience serious damage and even fertility because the gonorrhea was left untreated?

They may feel embarrassed to seek treatment and believe it will go away if ignored. Others may not be aware they have it or mistake it for something minor like a yeast infection, bv or uti and try to self-treat.
