to convert an improper fraction to mixed, is just a matter of division.

in this case, we divide 19 ÷ 10, that gives us a quotient of 1, and a remainder of 9.

\bf \stackrel{improper}{\cfrac{19}{10}}\implies \stackrel{mixed}{\stackrel{\stackrel{quotient}{\downarrow }}{1}\frac{\stackrel{\stackrel{remainder}{\downarrow }}{9}}{10}}\implies 1(9)/(10)

10 out of 10 equals 1.

then there is 9 left.

This gives 1 and 9 over 10.

9 over ten is not a whole number as 10 over ten is.

Hope this helps.
