Slavery started in the colonies because land owners who had a lot of farm needed help so they bought slaves. Their jobs varied from picking crops and harvesting to making clothes and cooking. Jobs varied in colonies because some did or didn't farm etc. Slaves faced problems like beatings and not ever being free.
