notation to calculate about how much milk is produced in the US yearly. (round to the hundredths place)

we know that


5,400\ quarts = 5.4 * 10^3\ quarts


9.2\ million\ cows = 9.2 * 10^6 \ cows

so

Find the yearly milk production


= (5.4 * 10^3) * (9.2 * 10^6) = 49.68 * 10^9\ quarts

therefore

the answer is


49.68 * 10^9\ quarts
