8x - 2y² = 12

- 2y² = -8x + 12 subtracted 8x from both sides

y² = 4x - 6 divided both sides by -2

|y| =
√(4x - 6) took square root of both sides

y = +/-
√(4x - 6) eliminated the absolute value
