A tile setter covers a 5 ft by 5 ft square shower wall. Each tile covers a 4 5/8 in. by 4 5/8 in. square. how many rows of tile are needed to reach 5 ft. How many tiles are needed to cover the 5 ft by 5 ft?

The wall is square shaped.

The dimension of wall is 5 feet by 5 feet.

1 feet =12 inches

5 feet = 12*5 =60 inches

Area of square is given by:

Area = side * side

Area of square wall = 60*60 =3600 square feet.

Dimension of tile is 4 5/8 in. by 4 5/8 in.

converting 4 5/8 into improper fraction (8*4+5)/8 equals 37/8

Area of one tile = (37/8)*(37/8) = 1369/64

Number of tiles required can be found by dividing area of wall by area of one tile.

Number of tiles = 3600 divided by (1369/64)= 168.298 = 168

So number of tiles required will be 168.
