Two vectors have magnitudes of 1.8 m and 2.4 m. How are these vectors arranged, so their sum is 0.6 m?

They are arranged in opposite directions Answer ( 2.4 - 1.8 = 0.6)

The two vectors would have to be in opposition to each other. You would then get 2.4 - 1.8 = 0.6

3

The magnitude is sqrt(1.4^2 + 4.8^2) = sqrt(1.96 + 23.04) = sqrt(25) = 5

The Direction is tan-1(4.8/1.4) = 73.74o and that is East of North. (Draw a diagram. Draw the North vector going vertically with a length of 1.4 and horizontally of 4.8). The tan-1(opposite over adjacent) is the angle you want.

4.

Draw a diagram showing the vertical distance as 1.2 and the horizontal distance as 1.6.

The magnitude is sqrt(1.2^2 + 1.6^2) = sqrt(4)= 2

The direction is tan-1(1.6/1.2) = 53o

The answer is A

5

The total horizontal distance is 7 + 5 = 12 miles

The total vertical distance = 2 + 3 = 5 miles

The magnitude of the displacement = sqrt(12^2 + 5^2) = sqrt(169) = 13

The direction tan-1(5/12)= 22.6o North of East.
