Rhonda sold five appliances this week. She sold a stove for $800.00, a refrigerator for $1,250.00, a microwave for $120.00, a dishwasher for $625.00, and a blender for $65.00. Rhonda earns 15% commission only on the amount of money from weekly sales that EXCEEDS $2000.00, not on th initial $2000.00. Before taxes, how much money should she receive in her commission check?

whatever% of anything is just (whatever/100) * anything.

800+1250+120+625+65 gives us 2860.

now, she doesn't get any commission from the 2000, just the surplus, the 860.

how much is 15% of 860? well is just (15/100) * 860.

Answer:

$129

Explanation:

Id you sum the Rhonda's sales, you have:

stove $800.00

refrigerator $1,250.00

microwave $120.00

dishwasher $625.00

blender $65.00

Total sales: 800.00+1250.00+120.00+625.00+65.00= $2860.00

You know from the problem that: Rhonda earns 15% commission only on the amount of money from weekly sales that EXCEEDS $2000.00

You subtract from total sales $2000.00:

$2860.00-$2000.00=$860.00 (that is the amount over Rhonda earns 15%)

Then: $860*15%=$860*0,15= $129
