A cyclist rides his bike at a speed of 9 mph What is the speed and feet per second? How many feet will the cyclist travel and 15 seconds? In your computations use the fact that 1 mile is equal to 5280 feet.

1 mile = 5,280 feet:

9 miles x 5280 feet per mile = 47,520 total feet per hour

1 hour = 3600 seconds.

Divide total feet by seconds per hour:

47,520 feet / 3600 seconds per hour = 13.2 feet per second.


Multiply feet per second by number of seconds for distance traveled:

13.2 feet per second x 15 seconds = 198 total feet.
