Jonathan Edwards
Jonathan Edwards was a Puritan pastor and was a prominent leader of the Great Awakening in the US.
The First Great Awakening happened in the US in the 1730's and 1740's. It was a religious revival starting in Europe and spreading to the colonies. Edwards used the evangelical and passionate approach begun by the Great Awakening to liven the Puritan services. He made impassioned speeches which focused on the terror of Hell and encouraged righteous lifestyles. "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" was his most famous sermon.
