Answer: The shorter side is 20 yards and the longer side is 35 yards.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Perimeter of a rectangular room = 270 yards

Let the shorter side be 'x'.

Let the longer side be 'x+15'.

As we know the formula for perimeter:

Perimeter is given by

270=2(l+b)\\\\270=2(x+x+15)\\\\(270)/(2)=2x+15\\\\135=2x+15\\\\135-15=2x\\\\120=2x\\\\(120)/(2)=x\\\\x=20

So, the shorter side is 20 yards and the longer side is 20+15=35 yards.

In this question , it is given that, Perimeter of a rectangular room is 270 yards. Longer side of the room is 15 yards longer than the shorter side.

So if we let shorter side be x, then longer side is

x+15

And perimeter is equal to sum of all sides, that is

x+x+15+x+x+15=270 \\ 4x+30=270 \\ 4x=240 \\ x=60

So the smaller side is 60 yards , and longer side is 15 more then 60 that is 75 yards .
