The steppe can be defined as a geographical area, which is characterised by the grasslands. These area do not have trees, they only have grasses and shrubs. The steppes are similar to the deserts and the arid region. They experience harsh summers and very cold winters.

The steppes are mostly located in Mongolia, Siberia, china, United States of America and Tibet.

In the South America region, the Cold steppes are found in the elevation region of the Andes and Patagonia.

The steppes in South America are mostly found in the central part of the continent, south from the Amazon basin, and smaller area of steppes occupy part of the northern part of the continent.

The steppes in South America are mostly located on the territories of Brazil (the southern part of the country), Argentina (the northern part of the country), Uruguay, and Paraguay, so they are the dominant landscape in the central part of the continent. There are smaller areas occupied by steppes in the northern part of the continent, in Colombia and Venezuela. The steppes are mainly used by the people for the grazing of the livestock.
