The method of classification was first developed by Carl Linnaeus. The living things get classified into different categories. Eight different categories exist in the modern system of classification. They are domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. The categories become increasingly specific from domain to species. The living organisms are classified into these 8 categories by looking at the niche and shared closeness to the genetic and phenotypic characters with similar species across the whole taxa.
