All you need to do is distribute 2 to x and -2. So 2 times x and 2 times -2 is 2x-4, plus the 5x. Now comine the 2x and 5x. 2x+5x is 7x, and all that is left is the -4. So, the end result is 7x-4.

2(x - 2) + 5x

  • Distribute (multiply) 2 inside the parentheses.

2x - 4 + 5x

  • Combine like terms (2x + 5x).

7x - 4
