If n is a number.

"Five times the sum of a number and 3" is 5*(n+3).

"3 multiplied by 1 less than twice the number" is 3*(2n - 1).

And we have that

5*(n+3) = 3*(2n - 1)

5n + 15 = 6n - 3

5n - 6n = -3 - 15

-n = - 18

n= 18
