Terri can swim 3 laps in 2.5 minutes. To find how long it takes to swim 20 laps, you can make a proportion.

(Lap)/(Time)

Put the amount of laps on the top and the time(minutes) at the bottom.

(3)/(2.5) = (20)/(x)

Cross multiply:

20 * 2.5 = 50

Divide by 3:

50 / 3 = 16 (2)/(3) \rightarrow 16.67

It would take Terri
16 (2)/(3) OR
16.67 minutes to run 20 laps.
