Anyone who can display Latex correctly should be able to get the hang of algebra quickly.
Multiply the numbers (called numerical coefficients) together: 4 * 8 = 32
Now multiply the letters together. That is a bit harder. y * y
Two Rules
When a letter sits by itself, it is assumed to have a power of 1.
When two letters are multiplied together and the letters are the same the powers are added.
![y^(1 + 1) = y^(2)](https://img.qammunity.org/2019/formulas/mathematics/middle-school/i8ssj870lcmvtzod732j2nrotto0s187i5.png)
