The definition of a unitary government or unitary state is a system of political organization with a central supreme government which holds the authority over and makes the decisions for subordinate local governments. An example of a unitary government is the United Kingdom overseeing Scotland.

its a government where there are no states so the federal government has supreme authority and no other government bodies can challenge it. england is an example of a unitary government. other types of governments are federal, like the united states, where the power is shared between state and federal government, and confederate, where the states hold all the power and the only government that bonds them all are on issues that all states agree on. the south during the civil war was a confederate government, as well as america when it was governed under the articles of confederation.
