Start with the slope-intercept form y = mx + b. Subbing -3 for m, 3 for x and 5 for y, we get

5 = -3(3) + b. Then 5 + 9 = 14 = b, and the slope intercept form of the equation for this line is thus y = -3x + 14.

As a check, try this equation out for (3,5): Is -3(3) + 14 = 5? YES.

y-5=-3(x-3)=

y-5=-3x+9=

y=-3x+14
