So starting with 3.5x - 10 > -3, add 10 to both sides of that equation:
3.5x>7

Next, divide both sides by 3.5, and that inequality is
x>2

Next, with 8x - 9 < 39, firstly add 9 to both sides of the equation:
8x<48

Next, divide both sides by 8 and this inequality is going to be
x<6

In short, your solution set is x > 2 AND x < 6.
