California - California’s hot like a lime kiln, it’s been assumed that the name may come from the Latin roots calcis (lime) and fornax (oven).

Nevada - comes from nevada, meaning "snow-covered"

Colorado - comes from the Spanish colorado, meaning “deep red” Probably given because of the Spanish Rio Colorado’s (Colorado River) tendency to turn a deep red.

Montana - the region was called Montaña del Norte by the Spanish — basically “Mountainous Region of the North.”

Florida - Juan Ponce de León named the region La Florida, “The Land of Flowers.”
