Hello!

A variable is a number, and that number can be anything. Variables are usually symbolized as an alphabet letter.

A coefficient is a number used to multiply a variable.

A constant is a number that never changes and is on its own, meaning it doesn't have a variable connected to it.

In the expression 7x + 8,

  • x is the variable because it is symbolized as an alphabet letter, in this case, it is x
  • 7 is the coefficient because it is used to multiply the variable, x
  • 8 is the constant because it is on its own and does not have a variable connected to it

Answers:

Variable: x

Coefficient: 7

Constant: 8
