The opposite of the integer is its additive inverse.

Thus the opposite of 5 is -5 because 5 + (-5) = 0.

The opposite of -1 is 1 as -1 + 1 = 0.

"opposite" changes the sign

for example: the opposite of "+4" is "-4" and the opposite of "-10" is "+10"
