The main difference between Mahatma Gandhi's movement and the other movements was the peacefulness. Unlike most of the resistance movements around the world which were predominantly violent, the resistance movement initiated and led by Mahatma Gandhi was totally peaceful. Gandhi thought that his goals and the goals of the people of India can be achieved in a peaceful way and without bloodshed, and he openly criticized and was against the violence.
