How can dna be used to help solve a crime

The investigators can locate fingerprints to find out who the criminal is. Other things such as blood, saliva can be tracked down to the criminal

The major use of DNA is not to solve a crime necessarily but to prevent an injustice. If something so tiny as a hair is left on the crime scene it could be enough to prove that someone is innocent even though all other pieces of evidence point to the guilt of the accused.

If that hair has a different DNA than the accused, there might be enough doubt to free a person who is actually innocent.
